Folding The Flag

In honor of Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving, I decided to teach my Girl Scout Troop how to fold the US Flag. I started by discussing the flag, the reasons for each part of the flag, how to make a five sided star, etc. So the girls drew an accurate, if sloppy, rendition of the flag on both sides of a piece of white paper. Then we started folding! They had a really good time. After everyone had mastered the paper technique, we headed for the real thing. Four at a time they got to fold a cloth flag. I was glad to have something to keep their hands busy on the night before Thanksgiving. We also wrote letters to injured soldiers thanking them for their service and wishing them well.
